Golf courses in Almerimar and More!
Costa Almeria is a beautiful stretch of largely unspoilt coastline.
To the east is the rugged and desolate coast of the Cabo de Gata, an arid desert landscape with an annual rainfall of less than 200mm. It is sparsely populated, with few villages and a very low population density. Travelling to this part of Costa Almeria gives you a real sense of exploration especially as many of the coves can only be reached by rugged and narrow footpaths. It's easy to see why this area is particularly popular with nature lovers and back-packers. The most popular coastal village is San José.
West of Almeria are the highly developed tourist resorts of Roquetas de Mar and Aguadulce. These have all the facilities of any modern resort supporting the package holiday market.
At the north of the Costa de Almeria is the naturist beaches of Vera and a little further south is Mojacar which successfully combines the popular beach holiday with the hillside white villages that are a delight to explore, weaving your way through narrow streets, stopping to admire breathtaking views peaking through the white washed houses.
Almeria city is worth a visit with the Alcazaba castle overlooking the metropolis.
Almerimar
To the west is the developing complex of Almerimar, where Laguna Beach is located. This beautiful coastal harbour town is small and largely uncommercialised.
It's home to one of Spain's largest marinas with in excess of 1400 berths. Nestled between the Mediterranean on one side and the snow capped Sierra Nevada Mountains on the other, the town has slowly and traditionally developed around the Golf Course.
The 18 hole course was designed by Gary Player and built in 1976, featuring wide fairways flanked by leafy trees. The beaches are well maintained and stretch on for some 13km. There are Spanish Tapas bars, Chinese and Thai restaurants, Irish bars and many other good quality eating establishments.
The old fishing port town of Adra lies further west. In spite of the interesting castle and assorted archeological remains, it is often missed by tourists travelling along the coastal motorway to or from the Costa Tropical.
Three Great Golf Courses in Almerimar!
Designed by Gary Player and opened in 1976, the Almerimar Golf Course has established itself as a firm favourite, featuring wide fairways flanked by tropical palm trees and large lush greens spanning its 6444m. The course has undergone a massive refurbishment in recent years revealing itself at the beginning of this year to many eager seven irons! The changes prove that the now 27 hole course is successfully moving with the times and adapting to the demands of today’s golfers. Mindful of being green (no pun intended!) the course now features an efficient irrigation system and environmentally friendly fertilization process. The 100m Par 3 over-the-lake shot makes the 12th hole the most challenging and is a popular topic of conversation in the clubhouse after the game! Green fees are around 50€ and the club’s telephone number is +34 950 497 454.
La Envia Golf (about 5km from the penthouse) and Playa Serena Golf (around 15km away) are great alternatives to play during your stay in Almerimar. Both are 18 hole and Par 72 courses. Playa Serena Golf is the longer of the two courses and is dominated by nine lakes, seven of which are natural and home to a variety of exotic migratory birds whilst La Envia Golf is backed by stunning mountain and desert scenery making it a really spectacular setting.
